Solano Stroll 2011

Since 1974, the merchants, restaurants, and professionals, as well as the twin cities of Albany and Berkeley CA, have hosted the Solano Avenue Stroll, one of the East Bay's largest street festival.

This year's 37th Solano Stroll, entitled "Unsung Heroes," brought together an estimated 100 thousand people to view the parade, sample edible delights, receive information on community and regional services and purchase a variety of handmade and specialty items. During the parade electric vehicles, fire trucks, cheerleaders, bands, dancers, gymnasts, scouts and politicians rolled down the mile long stretch of Solano Avenue.

Alameda County is proud to be a sustaining partner of this annual event, located in Board of Supervisor member Keith Carson's District 5. The County was out in strong numbers with 14 agencies/departments sharing information on services and programs available to the citizens. Other Stroll participants included booths staffed by various groups of community organizations, local businesses, craftsmen, food vendors, non- profit and government agencies.

Linda Moore, Business Outreach Officer and her team at General Services Agency's (GSA) Office of Acquisition Policy coordinated the efforts to include some of the County agencies and departments by securing a block of booths on both sides of Solano Ave. between Modoc and Ensenada St. to promote a unified County presence. With the help of Property and Salvage, and GSA staff volunteers, it proved to be a very successful event once again, receiving recognition and praise from our County Administrator, Susan Muranishi and Supervisor Keith Carson.

The County agencies/departments participating were:

  • Auditor-Controller's Office
  • Board of Supervisors, District 5, Keith Carson's Office and Staff
  • District Attorney's Office Victim Witness Program
  • Community Development Agency Lead Prevention
  • General Services Agency (GSA) Office of Acquisition Polity (OAP), GSA Purchasing, and GSA Sustainability Programs
  • Human Resource Services
  • Probation Department
  • Public Works Agency
  • Registrar of Voters
  • Sheriff's Office
  • Social Services Agency (SSA) Adult and Aging Office, Children and Family Services - Faith Advisory Council, and the Workforce & Benefits Administration

Community spirit was the highlight of this event with a ferris wheel as the new welcome addition!
